Yoga Adventure Retreat to Dominica

April 4-11, 2009

Dominica, Nature Isle of the Caribbean

The fiery creation forces are alive here - steaming valleys, and the world's 2nd largest boiling lake, 365 rivers rushing to the sea, national parks, lush vegetation and a UNESCO World Heritage Site! "Domineek-ah" invites you to Explore! Hike! Discover! And below the sea, the clear Caribbean waters, volcanic formations and rich marine life make for exceptional diving, snorkeling and whale watching.

Joseph Roberson will lead you practices including yoga, breath and meditation designed to discover, purify and empower the Bhuttas, the elemental forces of Earth, Water, Air and Fire as they manifest in our embodied experience. The spectacular geothermal features of Dominica, both on land and in the crystal waters, provide the ideal environment to focus on these nature energies.

Trish Perkins will lead us as we discover these forces via hiking, snorkeling, swimming and scuba diving.

Trish and I have planned this adventure for four years and are excited to finally be ready to offer it to you. This week is dedicated to enjoying an unforgettable adventure both within and without. Our "Dominica Yoga & Nature Adventure" promises to be the retreat of the decade!

Price $1,650.00 when you register by February 1st!

Price $1,800.00 after February 1st

"We visited Dominica several years ago around the time of Mardi Gras.  It is a stunningly beautiful island.  It is mountainous and green with pure aquamarine waters washing up along the rocky coastline.   It is also replete with so many rivers and waterfalls that only a fraction of them are even listed in most tour books.  Dominica is not heavily touristed and there are very few resorts of the kind you see on other Carribbean islands.  I believe that the island is still relatively young, as Carribbean islands go, and it still feels wild. You can go on hikes and never see another person, but birds are everywhere!

If possible, hike to the Boiling Lake -- a caldera  about 100 yards in diameter filled with bubbling steaming water.  (Note that it's worth hiring a guide to avoid getting lost.)  The way there is also very cool.  In one part, you'll walk through a vast open area where the ground is cracked allowing sulfur gas and steam to escape from inner Earth.  Imagine being in another world . . . that's what it feels like. We also swam in a beautiful gentle warm waterfall surrounded by lush tropical vegetation.  It was paradise and a welcome respite from the long hike to the Lake!  Champagne Beach is also lovely.  You can snorkel among the sealife in water filled with tiny bubbles streaming up from the ocean floor.  Although there are many beaches, most are fairly rocky.  There are a few sand beaches worth visiting, though [Sunset Beach Resort is one of them!].  But try not to be too ambitious about seeing the whole island in one visit.  Even though it's small, travel from place to place is slow because of the mountains and the roads have many potholes.  We were there for a week and stayed entirely in the southwest quadrant of the island.  We rented a car and did all of our own driving.  If you do that, plan to stay put once the sun sets -- the roads are not lit and they are even more treacherous in the dark.  Besides, the nights are amazing! . . . completely devoid of all human-made sounds and the sky is magnificently filled with stars.  Depending on where you're staying it can also get quite cool at night -- particularly if you're inland at the higher altitudes.  All in all, I can say that Dominica is truly a special place.  I highly recommend it.  I know that we will definitely return one day."
